NEW! - Apps failing to load on Meta HMS headsets after Horizon OS v2.9 update
Meta has confirmed an issue where some apps cannot access required expansion files after managed deployment on Horizon OS v2.9 (v209). A correction is confirmed for v210, but availability and recovery instructions are still pending.
Some applications may stop loading after a managed Meta Quest headset updates to Horizon OS v2.9 (v209). Symptoms can include a stalled loading screen or a blank blue screen when launching an app.
Meta for Work Support has confirmed that, in investigated cases, applications cannot read their OBB expansion files. These files contain additional app content and may be present and complete but inaccessible because of file ownership and access permissions. Changes to file-access enforcement in v209 exposed the issue.
Apps deployed through Meta Horizon Device Manager can be affected, including Store-sourced apps. Loading symptoms alone do not confirm that an application is affected by this specific issue.
Fix status
Meta has confirmed a correction for Horizon OS v210. A separate v209 correction is not currently being pursued. Meta has not yet provided a confirmed availability date, a specific corrected build, or verified recovery instructions for existing affected installations.
What to do
Contact support support@precisionostech.com telling them you have the issue.
Do not repeat factory resets, manually change file permissions, or downgrade firmware. Meta has advised avoiding these actions while the cause and appropriate recovery steps are confirmed.
