Cadaverlab: Recovering From a Headset Sleep or Power State Issue

Applies to: Cadaverlab (formerly PrecisionOS Launcher) on Meta Quest headsets

Summary

If your headset goes to sleep while Cadaverlab is running, either because it sat outside your Guardian boundary for about a minute or because you pressed the power button, there is a chance it will wake into an unresponsive state. This can happen from the login screen or from inside Fracturelab.

When it occurs, you'll wake into darkness or passthrough. You'll still hear the operating room around you, including Delphi, but you won't be able to interact with anything.

This is a known issue. It affects roughly 1 in 4 sleep/wake cycles, and it does not indicate a problem with your account, your headset, or your training data. Nothing in your session is damaged; you need to restart the app or the headset.

What you'll see

This state has two versions, and the fix depends on which one you're in. Press the Meta button on your right controller to tell them apart.

State 1: The Meta menu still opens

You see darkness or passthrough and can't interact with the OR, but pressing the Meta button brings up the universal menu normally. This is the more common of the two.

To fix it:

  1. Press the Meta button to open the universal menu.
  2. Close Cadaverlab from the menu.
  3. Reopen Cadaverlab.

You can also power the headset off and back on if you prefer.

State 2: The Meta menu doesn't open

You see darkness or passthrough, you can hear the OR and Delphi, but pressing the Meta button does nothing — no menu appears.

To fix it:

  1. Hold the power button and power the headset off completely.
  2. Power it back on.
  3. Launch Cadaverlab.

There is no way to recover the Meta menu in this state without a full power cycle. Walking back inside your Guardian boundary will not reset it.

How to reduce the chance of it happening

The issue is triggered by the headset going to sleep while the app is open, so the goal is to keep it awake while you're stepping away.

Keep the headset inside your Guardian boundary when you set it down. If you're using roomscale, make sure the spot where you rest the headset- a table, a chair, a desk- falls inside the boundary you drew. If you're using a stationary boundary, make sure there's a surface inside that boundary you can set the headset on.

Increase the display sleep timer. The default is 1 minute, which is easy to trip during a short break. Setting it to 5 or 15 minutes gives you more room. Go to Settings → General → Power on your headset and adjust the display sleep timeout. Note that a longer timer will drain your battery faster.

Keep the headset charged. The issue appears to be less likely to occur when the headset is charging or at a high battery level. If you're running a long session, plugging in during breaks is worth doing.
