Capturing & sharing media

Instructions on how to take pictures and videos, and how to share or download them.

Screenshots and video capture of the PrecisionOS modules are available through the Oculus Sharing functions. Simply press the Oculus button on the right-hand controller while in a PrecisionOS application and select the “Photo” or “Video” icon from above the toolbar.

Taking a photo

When selecting this option, a screenshot will be taken after a 5-second countdown. A blinking red dot will appear at the top of your display as an indicator of a pending photo.

Recording a video

Select this option to start recording the VR environment around you; recording continues until one of the following occurs:

  • The same Sharing menu is reopened and the recording is stopped manually.
  • The headset is removed, or otherwise goes to sleep; putting the headset back on does not automatically restart the recording.
  • Navigating to other apps with protected content; Oculus will not allow you to record potentially sensitive areas of their interface.

While recording, a small solid red dot appears to indicate that the display is being recorded.

Transferring to a computer

After capturing a photo or video, you can transfer them from your headset to your computer:

  1. Connect the headset to your computer using the included USB-C cable.
  2. Put your headset on and select “Accept” to allow your computer to access the files.
  3. Back on your computer:
    • On Windows, Oculus Quest will automatically appear as a drive on your computer. Open the folder called Oculus, then Screenshots (for photos) or Videoshots (for videos).
    • On Mac, you will need to install a 3rd party program called “Android File Transfer” to successfully transfer files between your headset and computer.  For more information, please visit: https://www.android.com/filetransfer/
    • On Chromebook/Chrome OS, you will need to use the “Files” app to access your headset, by clicking and dragging files to or from your headset folder or window on your computer.
