How to start casting/streaming

Instructions and overview for casting

Casting is a function that allows you to share what you’re seeing in VR with others around you. You can cast to your computer, phone, or supported Chromecast device or TV.

Note: Before attempting to cast, please ensure your headset is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the device you are trying to cast to.

Chromecast

The simplest way to display your VR environment onto a screen is by using Google Chromecast (recommended method for the lowest latency and highest quality experience).

  1. Turn the headset on by pressing the power button for 3 seconds and put it on.
  2. Press the Oculus button  on your right controller to open the Universal Toolbar.
  3. Select the sharing icon from the toolbar to open the Sharing menu.
  4. Select “Cast” from the Sharing menu.
  5. Select your Chromecast from the device list, and press “Next” to begin casting.

Casting to a Browser

You can also choose a supported browser on your computer to cast to, which is great for meetings or presentations with a mixed/remote audience (browser requirements: Chrome or Edge).

  1. Open a supported browser on your computer and navigate to www.oculus.com/casting
  2. Sign in using the same Oculus account that is configured on your headset.
  3. Put on the headset and press the Oculus button  on your right controller to open the Universal Toolbar.
  4. Select Camera, select Cast then select Computer.
  5. You can now connect your computer to a larger display via HDMI for meetings, or you can share your screen with everyone inside a 3rd party meeting space (eg. Zoom, Teams, WebEx, etc) so that remote attendees can follow along.

Casting to the Meta App

With the Oculus app installed on a smartphone or tablet, you can cast your VR environment directly to the app (system requirements: Apple iOS 10+ or Android 6.0+).

Download the Meta app and log in

  1. Open the app marketplace for your device.
  2. Search for “Oculus” to find the app.
  3. Install the “Oculus by Facebook Technologies" on an Android device or the "Oculus Entertainment” app on IOS and log in with the same account that the casting headset is configured with.
  4. Sign in with your credentials depending on how your account was set up.
Note: If  PrecisionOS created and provided the Oculus/Meta account credentials to you, sign in with the 'Log in with email' option.

Start casting

  1. After signing into the app, you can start casting from the Oculus app itself:
    1. From the Meta app, tap Menu then tap Casting
    2. Your headset will show as “Connected” and you can press “Start” to begin casting.
  2. Or, you can start the casting from within the headset:
    1. Put on the headset and press the Oculus button  on your right controller to open the Universal Toolbar.
    2. Select the camera icon from the toolbar.
    3. Select “Cast” from the Sharing menu.
    4. Select “Oculus app” and press “Next”.
    5. Check your Oculus mobile app for a notification and select “Start Casting” to begin casting.
