Key Mechanisms for Long-Term Engagement

Once your program is underway, sustained engagement is essential. Effective programs combine data-driven feedback with clearly defined roles to maintain motivation and accountability.

The "Data-Driven" Feedback Loop

Engagement isn't just about time-in-headset; it's about the quality of the time spent. Effective use of time simulating in VR can dwarf comparable simulation when travel, setup and practice on a single-use model is considered.

We can also help highlight outcomes and review a resident's VR analytics to help populate a resident’s training portfolio. We’re able to report on which simulations they’ve completed, and in our FractureLab application even going as far as to create an entire case log of data and practice attempts to help populate their case logs through our mobile app!

This creates a powerful feedback loop that pulls residents back to the platform to practice and demonstrate proficiency, if they know their usage is being evaluated – they’re far more likely to remain engaged.

Defining Roles for Success

A successful implementation is built on people, not just technology. Many programs have seen success by identifying local champions, and we recommend identifying 1 or more of these key roles at your institution to build a sustainable program:

  • The Program Director (The Vision): Aligns VR modules with PGY-level goals and champions the "why" behind the curriculum integration.
  • The Program Coordinator (The Driver): Manages the day-to-day logistics (hardware, scheduling) and tracks analytics to help populate resident portfolios.
  • The Faculty Attending (The Catalyst): Provides the "top-down nudge" and integrates VR analytics into resident feedback sessions.
  • The "Resident Champion" (The Advocate): A tech-savvy senior resident who can help mentor junior residents, build "bottom-up" enthusiasm, and provide on-the-ground feedback.
