Meta Horizon Managed Headsets (MHMS) vs. Consumer Meta Headsets: What’s Different After the Latest Update
Meta recently introduced a redesigned VR interface that changes how navigation and settings work
However, your experience will differ depending on how your headset is configured:
- MHMS (Meta Horizon Managed Services)
- Consumer headsets
Key Difference: Update Timing & Experience
MHMS Headsets (Managed by Us)
- We manage and configure your headset
- OS updates are delayed before reaching your device
- Your interface may look different from newer tutorials or videos
- You will not experience the new navigation changes immediately
This delay is intentional to ensure stability and avoid disruptions to your workflow.
Consumer Headsets (Standard Meta Account)
- Receive updates directly from Meta
- Experience the new interface immediately
- May notice significant changes, including:
- New navigation flows
- Changes to how settings are accessed
- Different ways to return to apps (e.g., using the Meta button)
- Updated app management (e.g., uninstall now labeled differently)
What This Means for You
- If you're using an MHMS headset:
- Your experience will remain consistent for now
- Changes will be introduced later in a controlled rollout
- If you're using a consumer headset:
- You may notice a different and sometimes unfamiliar interface
- Navigation may feel different at first (e.g., accessing settings or returning to apps)
Important Note on Navigation Changes (Consumer Devices)
With the new Meta interface:
- Pressing the Meta button brings up your apps and system menu
- Some settings menus can feel harder to exit until you get used to the new flow
- Certain actions (like uninstalling apps) are now accessed differently
