Writing Good Questions for Delphi
Get better answers from Delphi by naming the topic precisely, adding context, saying what you want back, and attaching your own files.
Delphi gives its best answers to specific questions asked the way you'd ask an attending: name the procedure or condition, add the context, and say what you need.
What makes a good question
- Name it precisely. Say "Schatzker VI tibial plateau fracture", not "knee fracture".
- Give the context. Add the patient, the approach, or the stage you're at: "I'm preparing for a reverse shoulder arthroplasty with glenoid bone loss."
- Say what you want back. A step-by-step walkthrough, a classification, risks, a video, or an academic reference.
- One topic per conversation. Delphi uses the whole conversation to answer follow-up questions, so switching topics partway through can pull unrelated details from earlier questions into the answer. Select New question when you change topics.
- Attach your own material. Select the + icon in the text field, then Upload files. You can attach an attending's preference card or notes, a journal article, images, or other files for Delphi to use alongside its sources. Video and DICOM files aren't supported. Remove patient identifiers before uploading.
- Refer to material you've previously uploaded. Files you upload are saved to your account. To use them again, select the + icon in the text field, then Reference My Files. Delphi will look through your past uploads for information relevant to your question.

Example questions
|
If you want to… |
Try asking |
|
Prepare for a case |
"I'm preparing for a rotator cuff repair. Talk me through it." |
|
Review a classification |
"Explain the Neer classification for proximal humerus fractures." |
|
Understand anatomy and risks |
"Describe the risks to the ulnar nerve during a distal humerus ORIF." |
|
Plan a technique |
"What is the optimal femoral tunnel placement in ACL reconstruction?" |
|
Watch a procedure |
"Show me a video on diagnostic shoulder arthroscopy." |
|
Find a specific talk |
"Show me Dr. George Athwal's Nice Shoulder Course video." |
|
Learn how a device works |
"How does the reamer work in the Stryker Perform total shoulder system?" |
|
Use your attending's preferences |
Attach the preference card, then ask: "Walk me through this case using my attending's preferences." |
|
Review previously uploaded files |
Choose Reference My Files from the + menu, then ask: "How does Dr. Goel position a patient in beach chair?" |
Follow-ups and limits
Keep asking in the same conversation to go deeper. Delphi remembers the context, so "What about the posterior approach?" or "What are the common complications?" work as follow-ups. Select New question to start a fresh topic.
Delphi answers only from the licensed libraries in your plan and any files you add. It doesn't search the open web, so questions outside its orthopaedic libraries may not get an answer. If its sources don't support an answer, it will say so. If that happens, try rephrasing, naming the topic more precisely, or checking which libraries your plan includes.
