Running "Collaborate" sessions

Let's find out how to host or join a multi-user collaborate session.

Collaborate mode is an essential feature of the PrecisionOS platform as it allows multiple users to meet up in the same virtual OR and communicate through speech. The central idea behind the collaborative mode is to encourage learning and participation.

Collaborate session pre-check

  • The host chooses a PrecisionOS app that supports the "Collaborate" mode; not all procedures currently support this.
  • Host and participants are connecting to the internet over Wi-Fi networks that are not heavily restricted; many corporate and institutional firewalls block certain ports that are required for this mode.
  • Host and participants are all using the same version of the app.

Starting the Collaborate session

If the above items are in place, then a Collaborate session can be started by having the host first create the session:

  1. Sign in to the Platform Launcher, then select the desired module
  2. Once loaded, tap on the orange “Collaborate” button to open the Collaborate panel
  3. Tap on "Host a session" from the Collaborate panel
  4. Once the session is created, share the 4-digit “Meeting ID” with the participants

Once the host shares the "Meeting ID", participants can join the session:

  1. Sign in to the Platform Launcher, then select the same module as the host
  2. Tap on the orange “Collaborate” button to open the Collaborate panel
  3. Tap on "Join existing session" from the Collaborate panel
  4. Enter the 4-digit "Meeting ID" shared by the host and hit "Join"

How to Late Join (or rejoin) a session already in progress

Participants should all join the Collaborate session before the host starts the procedures so that everyone gets in at the same time without issues. However, participants can join a session already in progress, or even rejoin a session that they were previously disconnected from:

  1. Follow the steps above for joining a session and wait for the late join request to pop up for the host.
  2. The host will need to manually tap “Allow” from the bottom of the Collaborate panel to admit late or re-joining participants.

Note: The host can only press the accept button and admit a late join while at the beginning of any given step, and also while not holding an instrument.
